COD Women’s Soccer fights hard in season opener, falling to the Cougars, 4-0

COD (0-1) opened up the 2018 season at home, hosting the Taft Cougars (2-0-1), and the game was hotly contested, as each team played well, but a three-goal second half by the Cougars proved to be the difference as the home side fell, 4-0.

Freshman forward Jaidah Martin (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman forward Alejandra Gonzalez (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with two shots on goal each. Sophomore midfielder Alexi Mejia (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman midfielder Estefania Valenzuela (Thermal Coachella Valley) had a shot on goal each on the afternoon.

Starting goal keeper, freshman Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley), led the team with three saves in the first half. Freshman goal keeper Kaylin Eastman (Indio Shadow Hills) played the second half, making a save.

The next home game for COD is when they host the Imperial Valley Arabs at Robert F. Boone Football Field, on Friday, September 7, game starts at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners have a 25-2-1 record all-time in head-to-head contests against the Arabs, including a 13-1 record at home.
