COD Women’s Soccer left frustrated by the Panthers, 2-1

COD (5-8-2; 3-4) had an opportunity to make history by defeating the visitors, got close, but a two goal lead appeared to be too much for the home team, as the Roadrunners fell to the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (11-2-2; 6-1), 2-1.

The Panthers were on the attack all game long as they had 13 of their 24 shots in the first half, the Roadrunners made a valiant effort with their shots, of the five shots they had, three were on goal and one was pounded into the back of the net in the 75th minute.

Sophomore goal keeper Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley) made eight huge saves, on ten shots, including seven corner kicks.

Chaffey would get onto the scoreboard first, scoring in the 35th minute and both teams would go into the halftime break with the Panthers up 1-0.

Early in the second half, in the 48th minute, Chaffey struck again, but the Panthers all of a sudden hit a wall and Desert began to capitalize.

Eventually, those opportunities turned into a goal in the 75th minute as the former Shadow Hills teammates found each other, when freshman forward Jasmine Castillo (Indio Shadow Hills) fed the ball to freshman midfielder Isabel Alvarez (Indio Shadow Hills) on the right side and it was off to the races. Alvarez scampered and fired, sneaking a ball under the left arm of the diving Chaffey keeper to give the Roadrunners late life. It was the seventh goal of the season for Alvarez and the third assist of the season for Castillo.
