2019 Season in Review - COD Women’s Soccer

Under fifth-year head coach Garrett Estrin, Desert finished the regular season with a record 8-9-4 overall and 5-5-2 in conference. The Roadrunners placed 4th in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC).

Freshman forward Ashley Murguia (Indio H.S.) received first team All-IEAC, and led the team with 12 goals and 30 points for the season. She came in second on the team with 24 total shots and had 15 shots on goal.

Also named first team All-IEAC was sophomore midfielder April Contreras (Palm Desert H.S.) where she started in 20 of 21 games. Contreras had four goals and five assists for the season, collecting a total of 13 points.

Freshman defender Marion Angulo (Cathedral City H.S.) was named first team All-IEAC where she started in 19 out of 21 games for the Roadrunners and helped the team secure five shutout victories.

Sophomore goal keeper Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley) and freshman defender Anaya Guerrero (La Quinta H.S.) were also named second team All-IEAC. Zamudio-Ontiveros racked up a total of 1813:45 in the net. She started in all 21 games and landed 14th in the state with 127 saves. Guerrero started in 20 of the 21 games and had five assists for the season.

Freshman defender Daniela Iniguez (Thermal Coachella Valley) was named second team All-IEAC. She started in 20 of the 21 games and scored 3 goals for the season.

First to receive All-IEAC Honorable Mention was freshman midfielder Isabel Alvarez (Indio Shadow Hills) where she racked up 8 goals and had 32 shots for the season.

Also receiving an honorable mention was freshman forward Jasmine Castillo (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore midfielder Yesenia Torres (Thermal Desert Mirage). Castillo ranked 19 in the state with 52 shots and in the game at home against Cerro Coso on October 8th, she scored a double hat trick, scoring 6 goals for an 11-0 win. Castillo also came in second on the team with 24 points for the season.
