COD Women's Tennis wins second straight, conquering the Knights, 5-4
COD (2-0; 2-0) travelled to San Diego City (1-5; 1-1), overpowering the Knights, 5-4.
In doubles play, the team of sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) skewered the Knights, 8-3. Also winning their match, 9-8, was the team of sophomore Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) in a hard fought battle. The team of freshman Vanessa Rodriguez (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Madison Burns (La Quinta H.S.) wrapped up doubles play for Desert, with the Roadrunners falling, 8-2.
In singles play, Stepien continued winning effortlessly, taking the match in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0, and Munoz struggled in her singles match, falling 6-3 and 6-0. Zubick once again won easily 6-0 and 6-1, as Rapan defeated her opponent 6-1 and 6-3. Finishing singles play for the Roadrunners, Burns lost a close match that went into an extra set, 5-7, 7-6, and 7-4, and Rodriguez lost 6-1 and 6-4.
After the victory over the Knights, Desert is now tied for first place of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) with the Southwestern Jaguars.
The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be at home on February 19th at 2p, where they will host a non-Conference match against the Orange Coast Pirates of Costa Mesa.
College of the Desert defeated San Diego City College, 5-4 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play at San Diego City College in San Diego.
