COD Women’s Tennis struggles in road match against the Griffins, 6-3
COD (2-2; 2-1) played a hard fought Conference match as the Roadrunners traveled to La Mesa to take on the undefeated Grossmont Griffins (5-0; 3-0), falling, 6-3.
In doubles play, the team of sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) won easily, 8-1, but unfortunately, that was not the case for the rest of the Roadrunners doubles teams. The team of sophomore Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) and sophomore Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) fell, 8-3 and the team of freshman Madison Burns (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Vanessa Rodriguez (Palm Springs H.S.) fell, 8-2.
In singles play, Stepien easily won in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0, but in Munoz's match, she lost the first set, 6-3, then rebounded in a big way, taking the second set 6-1 and almost gabbed the match in extras, eventually falling 10-6.
Zubick fell in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0 and Rapan swept her way to victory, winning, 6-4 and 6-0. Burns lost in straight sets 6-0 and 6-2 and Rodriguez fell as the number six, 6-2 and 6-1.
The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be in Palm Desert on March 1st at 2p, where they will host a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) match against the Palomar Comets of San Marcos.
Grossmont College defeated College of the Desert, 6-3 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play at Grossmont College in La Mesa.
