COD Women’s Volleyball sweeps aside the Coyotes, 3-0

Givens in 2018: Death, Taxes, Roadrunners sweep. COD (7-1) has won all of their matches in three-set sweeps and the next victim was the Cuyamaca Coyotes of El Cajon (6-3), 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-19).

In her first match with the team, sophomore middle blocker Mckenzie Bartlett (Redmond, OR Ridgeview) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces, had 5 kills and had 2 block assists.

Your Roadrunners have a 9-1 all-time record against the Coyotes, including a 4-1 record at home. The last time Desert defeated Cuyamaca was at home in 2015, 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-13 and 25-16) and the last time Desert swept the Coyotes was in 2013, the match was also at home (25-14, 25-15 and 25-23).

Sophomore setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 38 assists, led the team with 3 block assists, tied for the team lead with 10 digs and had 5 kills and sophomore outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 12 kills, had a service ace and had 3 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 2 solo blocks, had a block assist and had 10 kills and freshman outside hitter Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) had 9 kills, had a service ace and had 9 digs.

Sophomore libero Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) led the team with 10 digs and had 2 assists and freshman opposite Kendal Campbell (White Rock, BC Semiahmoo Secondary) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces.

The next game for COD is at former Foothill Conference foe, the Antelope Valley Marauders (3-2) of Lancaster, on September 19. The Roadrunners knocked off AVC in 2017 in Palm Desert, but they last played in Lancaster in 2016, where the Desert fell 3-2. The Roadrunners have a 20-25 record all-time against Antelope Valley and an 8-14 record on the road against the Marauders, the match starts at 6 p.m.
