COD Women’s Volleyball stuns #15 team in the state, knocks off Panthers, 3-1

COD (11-8; 4-1) made waves in the Volleyball world, as they stunned the #15 team in California and created a logjam atop the IEAC by defeating the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga, 3-1 (25-17, 26-24, 23-25, 25-22).

Freshman middle blocker Alex Salinas (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 4 service aces, 2 solo blocks, 3 block assists, and also had 8 kills.

The Roadrunners have a 26-30 overall record against Chaffey since they first played each other in 1976, including a 17-13 record in the friendly confines of Palm Desert. The most recent time Desert defeated the Panthers was last season, sweeping Chaffey in Palm Desert, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-13.

Freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) led the team with 16 kills and had 1 block assist and freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) tied for the team with 16 digs.

Sophomore right side Kendal Campbell-Faynor (White Rock (BC) Semiahoo Secondary) tied for the team with 16 digs and had 3 service aces.

Freshman defensive specialist Alyssa Johnson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) had 13 digs and 3 service aces.

The next game for Desert is on the road, where they will continue Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) play at the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville on November 6th at 5 p.m. College of the Desert a 17-40 all-time record against the Rams, but the Roadrunners have won 4 of the last 5 contests between these two teams. The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Friday, November 8th at 5 p.m., when they continue IEAC play by hosting the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles.
