2019 Season in Review- COD Women's Volleyball

The 2019 season was the eighth year for co-head coaches Marion Champion and Detlev Rothe as Desert ended the season with a record of 15-9 overall and 8-2 in Conference, winning the inaugural Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC) title and their first title since 2007.

The 2019 season was truly a season of firsts for the Roadrunners including: knocking off LA Pierce for the first time ever, defeating East LA in Monterey Park for the first time ever, knocking off Mt. San Antonio for the first time since 2007, defeating Santa Monica for the first time since 2008, and winning 9 of 10 matches from September 28th through November 15th.

On the court, freshman setter Judy Figueroa (Indio Shadow Hills) was named first team all–IEAC. She landed top 15 in the state with 799 assists and she also placed top five in the state with an average of 10.11 assists per set. Figueroa also had 260 digs for the season and placed second on the team with 36 service aces.

Freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) was named second team all- IEAC. Hansen placed placing second in the state with 597 digs. She had 25 or more digs in 11 of the 24 games played in the season. Hansen had a season high 51 digs against Butte College at the Mt. San Antonio Invitational on September 28.

Named All-IEAC Honorable Mention was sophomore right side Kendal Campbell-Faynor (White Rock (BC) Semiahoo Secondary) as she led the team in service aces with 48. She also had 292 digs for the season. Campbell-Faynor was Honorable Mention in 2018 as well.

Also to receiving the Honorable Mention award was freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore middle blocker Aaliyah Muhammad (Los Angeles Westchester). Thiem led the team with 303 kills and ranked 31st in the state and Muhammad led the team with 70 total blocks, including 37 solo blocks and 33 assisted blocks on the season.
