COD Women’s Volleyball sweeps past Arabs, 3-0

COD (1-3) grabbed their first win of the 2022 season, snagging a sweep on the road and knocking off the Imperial Valley Arabs (1-6), 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-23).

Sophomore setter Kianna Diaz (Palm Desert H.S.) led the team with 40 set assists and had 7 digs and sophomore outside hitter Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 16 kills and had 10 digs. Freshman outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had 11 kills and 5 digs and freshman libero Briana Del Val (Indio H.S.) led the team with 12 digs. Sophomore opposite hitter Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) had 7 kills and led the team with 2 assist blocks and freshman opposite hitter Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills H.S.) had 7 kills and 5 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Denise Lupian (Indio Shadow Hills) had 8 digs.

College of the Desert has a 25-14 all-time record against the Arabs and 10-7 record in Imperial. The next game for Desert will be at Costa Mesa for the OCC Invite, facing off with the Glendale Vaqueros on Friday, September 9th at 2 p.m. The Roadrunners have a 4-2 all-time record against the Vaqueros. The 2022 home opener for Desert will be on Saturday, September 17th at 2 p.m., where the Roadrunners will host the Southwestern Jaguars (formerly Apaches) of Chula Vista. The Roadrunners have a 7-4 all-time record versus Southwestern, and the last time Desert faced the Jaguars was in 2019 and their record in Palm Desert is 4-1.
