COD Women’s Volleyball chases off the Tigers, 3-1

COD (4-5) had great contributions from all sides, on serve receive to defense to the amazing fans, as the Roadrunners chased away the Riverside City Tigers (3-5), 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 24-26, 25-16).

With tonight's win, Desert leveled the all-time series record with the Tigers at 9-9. Sophomore setter Kianna Diaz (Palm Desert H.S.) set a career high in leading the team with 51 set assists on the night, also leading the team in digs and grabbing 2 service aces. Sophomore outside hitter Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) led the team with 19 kills, shared the team lead with 4 service aces and in assist blocks with 2, all while grabbing a solo block and freshman defensive specialist Liana Whitley (Palm Desert H.S.) had 2 service aces. Freshman outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) had 18 kills, 14 digs and a solo block and sophomore middle blocker Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) led the team with 2 solo blocks and had 7 kills. Freshman opposite hitter Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills, AZ) tied the team lead with 4 service aces and had 3 kills and sophomore middle blocker Caitlin Bilhartz (Bowling Green, MO) tied the team lead with 2 assist blocks and had 9 kills.

The Roadrunner's first game in program history against the Riverside City Tigers was back in 1976. Since that year, Desert has an 9-9 all-time record against the Tigers, including a 5-2 record in the Coachella Valley. For the Roadrunner's next contest, they will host the East Los Angeles Huskies of Monterey Park on Friday, September 23rd. Since 1984, Desert has a 4-8 all-time record versus the Huskies, with a 4-3 record in Palm Desert.
