COD Women’s Cross Country opens 2018 at the Palomar Invitational

COD opened the 2018 season at Guajome Regional Park in Oceanside for the Palomar Invitational, where the team had finishers of 26th, 38th, 60th and 68th place on the 5k course.

With only four runners, the Roadrunners did not qualify for a team score, but placed well individually among a crowded field. Saddleback College won the event with 27 points and an Imperial Valley College runner grabbed first place individually, with a time of 19:32.

Grabbing the top spot for Desert in Oceanside was freshman Jasmin Gallegos (Indio Shadow Hills), collecting a 26th place finish and a time of 22:07.

Sophomore Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.) finished 38th, collecting a time of 22:53 and freshman Yesenia Velazquez-Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage), who crossed the finish line at 27:37, good enough for 60th place.

Freshman Gladys Blanco (Rancho Mirage H.S.) wrapped up the top four for COD with a time of 30:22, finishing in 68th place.
