COD Women’s Cross Country rolls through the SoCal Preview

COD opened the 2018 season at Don Knabe Community Regional Park in Cerritos for the Southern California Championships Preview Meet, where the team had finishers of 54th, 117th, 178th and 184th place on the 5k course. 

With only four runners, the Roadrunners did not qualify for a team score, but placed well individually among a crowded field. Glendale College won the event with 77 points and a Moorpark College runner grabbed first place individually, with a time of 17:49.3.

Grabbing the top spot for Desert in Cerritos was freshman Jasmin Gallegos (Indio Shadow Hills), collecting a 54th place finish and a time of 21:08.2, dropping 59 seconds from her previous best time.

Sophomore Brandie Lopez (La Quinta H.S.) finished 117th, collecting a time of 23:00.2 and freshman Yesenia Velazquez-Hernandez (Thermal Desert Mirage), who crossed the finish line at 27:49.3, good enough for 178th place.

Freshman Gladys Blanco (Rancho Mirage H.S.) wrapped up the top four for COD with a time of 29:07.4, dropping 1:15 from her previous best time and finishing in 184th place.
