COD (6-12; 3-7) traveled to Frazee Beach in Carlsbad where Palomar College hosted the final regular season week of Beach Volleyball, knocking off the San Diego City Knights (5-14; 3-7) for their third win in Conference play.

The final regular season event on the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) schedule was real eye opener as the Roadrunners turned around their fortunes against a Knights team, which they had lost to last week, 3-2, turning that into a 3-2 win this week. Then nearly knocking off a San Diego Mesa (12-9; 6-4) team, 3-2, which had defeated Desert 5-0 on March 30th.

Desert rolled into their sixth week of PCAC games, opening up with San Diego City. The team of freshman Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) had to fight back in their match after falling in set one, 21-19, then reversed course and stung the Knights, 21-19 to force a third and deciding set, which they won 15-7.

The team of freshman Naomi Garcia-Marquez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) and freshman Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) won in straight sets, 21-13 and 21-15. The team of sophomore Ashley Schwartz (Yucca Valley H.S.) and freshman Genesis Garza (Thermal Desert Mirage) also won in straight sets, 21-18 and 21-12.

Then Desert almost upset the third place Olympians, as the team of freshman Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.) won their opening set, 21-17, then fell by the same score in set two, forcing them into a hard fought third set, where the Roadrunners prevailed 15-8. The team of Schwartz and Garza had a tough time in their first set, coming from behind to win 23-21 and then just crushing their opponents in the second set, 21-14.

Next pair of matches for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Wednesday, April 25th beginning at 9 a.m., where they will travel to Frazee Beach in Carlsbad to participate in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Individual Tournament. Hope to see you there.
