COD Beach Volleyball falls to the Knights, 3-2, then blanks Pasadena, 5-0

COD (8-2; 1-1) clashed with the San Diego City Knights (9-5; 1-1) at the Civic Center Park, falling 3-2, before sweeping the Pasadena City club team, 5-0.

Desert opened up against the Knights as the "one's" team of sophomore Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) lost in a close match, 21-17 and 21-19. In the "two's" spot for the Roadrunners, freshman Taylor Adair (Yucca Valley H.S.) and freshman Kathleen Geiberger (Palm Desert H.S.) battled throughout the match, but eventually fell to San Diego City in an extra set, 21-10, 17-21, and 15-9.

Claiming the first victory for Desert, the "three's' team of freshman Kendal Faynor (British Columbia Semiahoo Secondary) and sophomore Naomi Garcia (Rancho Mirage H.S.) collapsed the Knights in straight sets, 21-18 and 21-15. The "fours" team of sophomore Shay Mesa (Indio Shadow Hills) and sophomore Nicole Svoboda (La Quinta H.S.) lost in straight sets, 21-18 and 21-10. Wrapping up for the Roadrunners, the "fives" team of sophomore Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) and sophomore Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) easily grabbed the second win for Desert in straight sets, 21-8 and 21-10.

The Roadrunners would finish the day by sweeping non-conference opponents, Pasedena City's club team. The "ones" team of Lyneis and Smith jumpstarted the sweep as they knocked off the Lancers in straight sets, 22-20 and 21-10. A new "twos" team of Gieberger and sophomore Brooke Topliff (Rancho Mirage H.S.), who filled for Adair due to an injury in the previous match, also won in straight sets 21-14 and 21-11. Continuing the momentum, the "threes" team of Faynor and Garcia, and the "fours" team of Mesa and Svoboda, struck down the Lancers easily in two sets. The "fives" team took the final victory for Desert, as Pasadena City was unable to field a "fives" team.

Next pair of home matches for College of the Desert Beach Volleyball will be Friday, March 29th beginning at 9 a.m., at the Civic Center Park, where they will take on the Grossmont Griffins and the Palomar Comets. Hope to see you there
