COD Men’s Golf opens up 2020 with 14th place finish in Lompoc

COD Men's Golf opened up the 2020 season with a tough tournament, as the team finished 16th on day one and recovered nicely to seal a 14th place finish for the tournament freshman John Kim, Jr. (Palm desert H.S.) collected a tie for 15th place individual finish for the tournament.

The Roadrunners sent five participants to its first event, which was hosted at La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc over a two-day period.

This opening tournament really brought out the heavy hitters, as four of the eight 2019 CCCAA State finalists were represented, along with seven Western State Conference teams and six NorCal teams. The Roadrunners were one of seven representatives from the Orange Empire Confernece at this event.

Desert would finish with 454 points after day one, putting them in 16th place only two-strokes back of the Antelope Valley Marauders and 76 strokes back of the leaders, the Reedley Tigers. The Roadrunners would rebound in day two, dropping 28 strokes on day two and finishing the tournament with 880 points, putting them in 14th place, 15-strokes back of the Modesto Blue Devils and nine strokes ahead of Antelope Valley. The Reedley Tigers would win the event with 781 strokes.

Kim, Jr. led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 158. He shot a nine-over 81 on day one and a five-over 77 on day two.

Freshman Cameron Winslow (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 90 on day one and dropped 11 strokes on day two, shooting a seven-over 79 on day two, giving him a total of 169 and sophomore Bailey Spivak (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 91 on day one, then dropping six strokes to shoot an 85 on day two, for a total score of 176.

Freshman Marcos Rosales (La Quinta H.S) shot an 93 on day one and an 86 on day two and freshman Trenton Romleski (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 198 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Soboba Springs Golf Club in San Jacinto on Wednesday, February 12 as they begin the Mt. San Jacinto Eagle Classic.
