COD Men’s Soccer pushes past the Arabs, 2-1

COD (6-5-4; 6-3-2) grabbed their third straight win and Marco Aguilar scored both goals for the Roadrunners as they pushed past the Imperial Valley Arabs (0-10-3; 0-8-2), 2-1.

Freshman starting goal keeper Jorge Cañedo (Palm Springs H.S.) did well in net making six saves on eleven total shots.

Desert and Imperial Valley would rumble for a draw going into halftime, but in injury time, freshman forward Pablo Minero (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) would push a pass to freshman forward Marco Aguilar (Rancho Mirage H.S.) who pounded a shot into the back of the net, just before the halftime whistle blew, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

The Arabs would equalize in the 58th minute, but a free kick from 18 yards out was turned into a goal by Aguilar, increasing the lead for Desert to 2-1.

In the 87th minute, a red card was handed out to the Arabs as a Desert player was tackled as he broke free from the goal keeper in the goal box, but the penalty kick attempt by sophomore defender Lionel Rosales (Palm Springs H.S.) went wide right.

The last time Desert had three straight wins was September 25 to October 7, 2014.

The next game for the Roadrunners is this Thursday at San Diego Mesa College and the next home game for Desert is on November 7th against MiraCosta.
