COD (3-1; 1-0) opened Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by defeating the Cerritos Falcons (3-2; 1-1), 7-2.

In doubles play, the team of freshman Marco Alvarez (Chula Vista Eastlake) and freshman Lucas Hammond (Las Vegas (NV) Nevada Learning Academy at CCSD) took down the Falcons in a close match, 8-4. The team of freshman Luis Mariano Argote (San Diego Grace Christian) and freshman Joshua Wong (Rohnert Park Rancho Cotate) grabbed another close win, 8-5.

In singles play, Argote only allowed a single point in his dominate win against Cerritos, downing the Falcon in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Winning in a similar style, Alverez took his match in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Both Raymundo Chavez Baez and Wong effortlessly won in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2. Wrapping up singles play for Desert, freshman Jared Thompkins (San Diego Mt. Everest Academy) fell in a hard fought match in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.

The next match for College of the Desert Men's Tennis will be on the road in Victorville on February 25th at 2p, where they will travel for an Inland Empire Athletic Conference match at the Victor Valley Rams.

College of the Desert defeated Cerritos College, 7-2 in Inland Empire Athletic Conference play at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
