Nellie Carrillo begins her first year as the Head Coach for both Men and Women’s Cross-Country team.  She coached the Women’s team in 2016 taking one of her athletes to the State Championships. As Assistant Coach her Women’s team qualified for the State Championships in 2010.

Nellie’s résumé includes work in Strength and Conditioning, flexibility/mobility, and Olympic weight lifting.  Nellie grew up in the Coachella Valley and attended Cathedral City High School where she was a three-sport athlete in Cross-Country, Soccer, and Track & Field. She helped lead her teams to 7 Desert Valley League Championships, and two CIF qualifications.

After high school, Nellie attended College of the Desert and continued to run Cross-Country. She was an all-conference runner, team captain and was awarded Female Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2004.

After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from California State University San Bernardino she grew a passion for Community College Education after being inspired by some of her former teachers and coaches at College of the Desert.

She went on to earn a Master’s in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Education and has been an Adjunct Instructor at College of the Desert for the past 8 years. Nellie enjoys inspiring students and student athletes, mentoring students who are Kinesiology majors, and those pursuing the Fitness Specialist certificate. 

Aside from coaching Cross-Country and teaching at College of the Desert, Nellie works as a CrossFit Coach in the Coachella Valley. Nellie was a competitive CrossFit Athlete for 5 years.  She is a 4 X Regional competitor and 2 year CrossFit Games Athlete in 2014 and 2016. Her team CrossFit CDR Redlands was named 7th fittest team in the world.  She was at one time ranked 4th in the nation for the Women’s Olympic Weight Lifting 48kg class.
