COD (9-7) got back on track with a come from behind win in game one and a lop sided hit parade in game two, as the Roadrunners took both games of a Saturday double header over the Cerro Coso Coyotes of Ridgecrest (1-13), 10-9 and 14-1.

Desert hosted a match-up that would make a Warner Bros. animator happy, when the Roadrunners hosted the Coyotes of Cerro Coso and much like the cartoon, the Roadrunner would get the best of the Coyote.

In game one, Cerro Coso took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first and the Roadrunners cut that lead in half in the bottom of the inning, making the score 2-1. The Coyotes responded with four more runs in the second, keeping the lead, this time with a score of 6-1, but Desert would come storming back again, scoring three more runs in the bottom of the second and making the score, 6-4.

Cerro Coso would add a run in the third and a run in the fourth to hold an 8-4 lead and the Roadrunners would add a run in the bottom of the fourth to lean into the lead, 8-5. The Coyotes would add another run in the top of the fifth, then the Desert bats woke up, scoring three runs in the sixth and scoring two runs in the seventh to grab a walk off win over Cerro Coso, 10-9.

Sophomore short stop and leadoff hitter, Briana Alcorn (Indio H.S.) won game one, scoring from third on a one out wild pitch, going 3 for 5 with five runs scored and freshman second baseman Giselle Maldonado (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 3 for 4 out of the seven slot, scoring a run.

Freshman third baseman Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.) went 1 for 2 with three runs batted in on the afternoon for the Roadrunners in game one.

In game two, Desert decided the game almost immediately as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and chased the Coyotes starter after only a third of an inning pitched and the Roadrunners would go through the entire lineup as they took a 7-0 lead.

Cerro Coso would score a run in the top of the third, but the Roadrunners wanted to end this game in a mercy and before it would be called due to darkness, scoring seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth as the Coyotes relief pitcher hit a wall and just couldn't get any Desert players out in the fourth.

Freshman right handed starting pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) was perfect at the plate in game two, going 3 for 3 with a run scored and four RBI's, all while striking out seven Coyotes over five innings pitched.

Alcorn went 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI and Avila went 0 for 1 with three walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

The next game for College of the Desert Softball will be in Menifee on March 13th at 2p, where they will continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) play on the road against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles.
