COD Softball remains undefeated in Conference, pushes past the Panthers, 5-1

COD (13-2; 3-0) appear to be hitting their stride as good pitching, good defensive plays and timely hitting proved to be the recipe for success, rolling past the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (3-10; 0-1), 5-1.

Desert would start the scoring in the first inning, scoring a pair of runs and taking a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, freshman shortstop and leadoff hitter Davia Hines (Palm Springs H.S.) clobbered a bases clearing triple to left and then scored on a single to center by sophomore catcher Natalie Avila (Rancho Mirage H.S.), to go up 4-0.

Chaffey would score on a sacrifice fly to left in the top half of the fourth, but the Roadrunners would get that run back in the bottom of the fourth.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Lauren Robinson (La Quinta H.S.) grabbed her ninth win of the season, tossing a complete game, surrendering a run on four hits, walking three and striking out five.

Hines would go 3 for 3 with two runs scored and an run batted in and Avila, batting out of the three hole in the lineup, would go 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI's in the win.

Freshman second baseman Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) would go 2 for 4 with an RBI out of the five hole in the lineup.
