COD (1-19; 1-3) played a strong first half against a strong Mt. San Jacinto Eagles (19-6; 4-0) squad, but the Eagles would use a big third quarter to sink the Roadrunners, 82-46.

While Desert struggled from the tip, they kept the game close in the first half, as neither team could find a rhythm and shooting percentages from the field were low. The Roadrunners would visit the free throw line 22 times in the first half alone, converting 16 of those attempts into huge points. Unfortunately, the 22.2% shooting from the field started to take its toll and it all came to a head in the third quarter, when Mt. San Jacinto won the quarter 27-6.

Sophomore starting guard Zuri Outlaw (Corona H.S.) led Desert with 11 points on 2 of 13 shooting, going 7 of 10 from the free throw line and sophomore starting guard Kiera Duran (Garden Grove Bolsa Grande) added 10 points on 1 of 4 shooting, going 7 of 12 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Alissa Munayco (Indio Shadow Hills) contributed nine points off of the bench, shooting 2 of 6 from the field and going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line and sophomore starting center Destiny Frazier (Blythe Palo Verde Valley) led the team with three blocks on the night.

Sophomore starting guard Vanessa Madera (Thermal Coachella Valley) led the team in assists with six and sophomore forward Tanner Rodriguez (Newport Beach Newport Harbor) led the team in steals with five.
