COD Women's Golf grabs 2nd place finish at Ventura

COD Women's Golf opened up the 2019 season with a tough tournament, as the team finished 2nd and sophomore Lilyanna Rodriguez (Palm Desert H.S.) collected a 4th place individual finish on day two.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its first event, which was hosted at two different courses over a two-day period. Day one was at the par-72 Olivas Links Golf Course and day two was at the par-72 Buenaventura Golf Course, both venues were in Ventura.

This opening tournament brought out the defending CCCAA State Champions, the College of the Canyons Cougars and perennial state title contender, the Santa Barbara City Gauchos, along with four other Western State Conference teams. The Roadrunners were the only representative from the Orange Empire Conference at this event.

Desert would finish with 642 points over the two-day tournament, which was 32 strokes better than the Roadrunners 2018 appearance and five strokes ahead of third place finisher, Santa Barbara City. College of the Canyons would win the event with 603 points.

Rodriguez led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 151. She shot a four-over 76 on day one and a three-over 75 on day two. Freshman Morgan Preece (Imperial H.S.) shot a 14-over 86 on day one and an impressive four-over 76 on day two, giving her a total of 162.

Sophomore Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) shot an 85 on day one and a six-over 78 on day two, shooting a 163 and freshman Raegan Preece (Imperial H.S.) shot an 88 on day one and a seven-over 79 on day two, giving her a total of 167.

Freshman Maddie Jones (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 176 and freshman Isabelle Smith (Indio Shadow Hills) to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners, shooting a 213.

COD will make their next appearance at Tahquitz Creek Golf Course in Palm Springs on Friday, August 30 as they begin the Desert Classic.
