COD Women's Golf grabs 2nd Place at Desert Classic

COD received a breakout performance from freshman Maddie Jones (Palm Desert H.S.), who rolled a team leading season best, three-over, 75, on day two to help the team leap from 4th place after day one to 2nd place on the final day.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its second event, which was hosted at the par-72 Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort in Palm Springs over a two-day period.

Three of the four Orange Empire Conference (OEC) teams participated in this event, two Western State Conference teams and two Northern California teams joined the fray as well.

Desert would finish with 635 points over the two-day tournament, 10 strokes ahead of third place finisher, the Modesto Pirates. Impressively, the Roadrunners shaved off 19 strokes from their first day at the tournament to place second. Desert had no one shoot less than 79 on day-one on the course and then on day two, had four players shoot 78 or lower.

Sophomore Lilyanna Rodriguez (Palm Desert H.S.) led the way for the Roadrunners in total score, shooting a 156. Rodriguez shot a seven-over 79 on day one and a five-over 77 on day two, placing her seventh overall. Freshman Morgan Preece (Imperial H.S.) shot an eight-over 80 on day one and a six-over 78 on day two, giving her a total score of 158, tying her for 8th overall.

Freshman Raegan Preece (Imperial H.S.) shot an 10-over 82 on day one and six-over 78 on day two, giving her a total of 160 and sophomore Emma Sorenson (Vancouver (WA) Prairie) shot a 14-over 86 on day one and then had to withdraw on day two.

Jones shot a 98 on day one and then dropped 23 strokes on day two, shooting a very impressive three-over 75 on day two and freshman Isabelle Smith (Indio Shadow Hills) also dropped 23 strokes off of her day one score, shooting a 217 to wrap up the two day event for the Roadrunners.

COD will make their next appearance at Desert Willow Golf Resort - Mountain View Course in Palm Desert on Wednesday, September 4 as they begin the Orange Empire Conference play.
