COD Women’s Golf takes 6th place finish at CCCAA State Finals

COD Women's Golf went to the CCCAA State Finals and came home with an impressive sixth place finish and landing two players with top 11 finishers.

The Roadrunners sent all five participants to play in the state championships, hosted off the central California coast at the par-72 Morro Bay Golf Course in beautiful Morro Bay.

Desert finished with an outstanding 663 points on the two-day event and only 6 strokes behind third place finishers, Modesto and 54 strokes back of the state champions, College of the Canyons.

Sophomore Lilyanna Rodriguez (Palm Desert H.S.) was the team leader all season, and this event was no different. She grabbed an eighth place finish in the individual state rankings, shooting seven-over 79 on day one and five-over 77 on day two, totaling 156 on the event.

Close behind was freshman Raegan Preece (Imperial H.S.) who shot six-over 78 on day one and eight-over 78 on day two, scoring a 158 to grab a tie for 11th place finish at the two-day championship event.

Freshman Morgan Preece (Imperial H.S.) finished 29th in state, shooting a 93 and catching her bearings on day two to shoot a strong eight-over 80, totaling 173.

Freshman Maddie Jones (Palm Desert H.S.) was consistent both days, as she shot an 88 on day one and an 88 on day two, giving her a total of 176.

Most impressive was freshman Isabelle Smith (Indio Shadow Hills) who shot a 104 on day one, then on day two, tied a season best with a 97 at the State Championships.
