COD (9-8-3; 5-3-2) ended the 2018 season on a high note as they celebrated Sophomore Night under the lights at the football stadium, knocking off the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee (5-9-6; 3-4-3) for the first time since 2010, 1-0.

The Roadrunners turned on the lights at Robert F. Boone Field and said a solemn farewell to some wonderful sophomore student athletes who were playing their final game in a Desert uniform. Once the pregame festivities concluded, the Roadrunners got down to business, fast.

With the Eagles only traveling with 12 players, it did not take long for the potent Desert offense to find the back of the net. In the third minute, sophomore midfielder Alexi Mejia (La Quinta H.S.) took the ball about 30 yards out and dribbled towards the goal mouth. Moving right to left, she passed it to a waiting sophomore forward Jiana Guerrero (La Quinta H.S.) who just tipped the pass underneath the keepers outstretched arm to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead.

Sophomore starting goal keeper Maira Fuentes (Thermal Desert Mirage) and freshman goal keeper Kaylin Eastman (Indio Shadow Hills) combined to play the first half in net for Desert and freshman goal keeper Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley) wrapped things up in the second half to grab the combined clean sheet.

The Roadrunners made tonight's win a monumental victory as they defeated Mt. San Jacinto for the first time since 2010. Desert has an all-time record of 5-26-5 against the Eagles.
