COD Women's Soccer falls to Wolverines to wrap up 2019, 3-0

COD (8-9-4; 5-5-2) visited San Bernardino Valley College (14-3-2; 10-1-1) on Friday November 15th, marking the close of the 2019 regular season.

This was the inaugural season for the newly formed IEAC (Inland Empire Athletic Conference). For the Roadrunners it ended on a solemn note, as they traveled down the 10 freeway in hopes of having their second consecutive season with a winning record a feat that has not been accomplished since 1998 & 1999. However being that SBVC is a very formable opponent who was ranked #9 in the previous CCCAA poll as well as the same ranking in the NJCAA National rankings had something to say about that in terms of denying the Lady Roadrunners. It was clear that the SBVC Wolverines were looking to close the regular season on high note, and they made that point early as they netted a goal at the 2:21 mark off a corner kick for header into the back of Deserts net. COD would settle in and keep the Wolverines at bay until the 29th minute, when off a set piece free kick passed the ball wide for a shot to take the 2-0 lead. Just a few minutes before the halftime whistle SBVC would find the net after sending the ball down the left side with a nice shot beating the keeper for 3-0 lead going into the break. San Bernardino would have a 9 to 5 shot advantage over COD, and both had taken 3 corner kicks in the first 45minutes.

The score would stay that way for the final 45 minutes with a back and forth affair in the second half. Desert had a few free kicks in the attacking third of the field, but came away with nothing. The COD coaching staff was pleased with the overall effort level and heart that the Roadrunners showed until the final whistle.

This game marks the end of the junior college careers for 6 young ladies who wore the colors for the College of the Desert Roadrunners; we would like to thank this group who helped win 17 games over the past two seasons, and wish them nothing but the best in their future endeavors. In no particular order thank you to the following group of sophomores for your time and dedication Jenny Salcido (Thermal Coachella Valley), Yesenia "Pucca" Torres (Thermal Desert Mirage), Jaidah Martin (Rancho Mirage), April Contreras (Palm Desert), Araceli Jimenez-Alonzo (Thermal Desert Mirage), and last but certainly not least Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros (Thermal Coachella Valley).
