COD (1-3) collected their first win of 2018, knocking off Conference foe, the San Diego Mesa Olympians (0-3), 8-1.

In doubles play, the team of freshman Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) battled and won their match, 8-4. The team of freshman Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) and freshman Sariah Sanchez (Indio Shadow Hills) had to fight back in their match, but survived a scare, winning 8-6 and the team of freshman Daniela Ramirez (Cathedral City H.S.) and freshman Ana Laura Ochoa-Castillo (Albuquerque (NM) Atrisco Heritage Academy) easily won their doubles match, 8-1.

In singles play, Stepien and Zubick won in straight sets, so did Ochoa-Castillo and Ramirez. Rapan lost her first set, 6-2, then won her second set 6-3 and battled back to win the deciding extra set, 10-7. Sanchez payed an amazing singles match, which caused the team to turn on the lights as it went four solid sets. She lost set one, 6-2 and won set two 7-6, then won the extra set 7-4, but lost the final set 10-6.

The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be on the road on February 20th at 2p, where they will continue Pacific Coast Athletic Conference-North Division (PCAC-North) at the Palomar Comets of San Marcos. Hope to see you there.
