COD (9-3; 8-2) wrapped up the 2019 regular season with a hard fought contest against the top team in the Conference, the Grossmont Griffins of La Mesa (15-2; 12-0), falling 5-4.

In Doubles play for Desert, the team of sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) remained undefeated in Conference play and 11-1 on the season as they fought back from a 5-1 deficit to catch the Griffins, 9-8 (7-4). In the second doubles victory for the Roadrunners, the team of sophomore Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) grabbed their ninth win and sixth straight team win, sneaking by Grossmont, 8-4. The third doubles team of freshman Adriana Vargas (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Vanessa Rodriguez (Palm Springs H.S.) fell 8-2.

In singles play, Stepien easily knocked off her opponent in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1, adding to her undefeated record now standing at 12-0. Grossmont would take the next match as Desert would fall in straight sets 6-1 and 6-3. Zubick would win her match the hard way, dropping the first set 6-0, then rallying to win the second set, 6-1, and then squeaking by in the extra set 6-4. Rapan, freshman Madison Burns (La Quinta H.S.) and Rodriguez all lost their matches in straight sets.

The next match for College of the Desert Women's Tennis will be the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) finals in Chula Vista on April 10th on the campus of Southwestern College.

Grossmont College defeated College of the Desert, 5-4 in Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play at College of the Desert in Palm Desert.
