COD Women’s Tennis sends all 3 doubles teams to State, Stepien wins PCAC Singles Title

PCAC press release on the All-Conference honors HERE

COD will be strongly represented at the CCCAA State Finals in Ojai, bringing along with them the PCAC conference MVP and all three doubles teams.

Winning the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) singles title was sophomore Claudia Stepien (Palm Desert H.S.), who rolled through her conference opponents, granting her an automatic qualifier to the State Finals. Stepien also was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The Conference Finals were a bit of a roller coaster of emotions for the team, as many doubles teams and singles players would go through a tough loss, thinking they had completed their matches for the day, only to have to turn around and play another match in 10 minutes, and if they won, would mean they would qualify for the Ojai Tournament.

Desert was so close in their doubles event, as the "One's" team of Stepien and freshman Karla Munoz (Rancho Mirage H.S.) lost the first set of the Conference Semifinals 6-3, then came back to win the second set 7-5, and found themselves down 4-2 in the extra set, tied the match at 4-4, but eventually fell, 7-5.

The effort was not without reward, as Stepien and Munoz, as well as, the "Two's" team of sophomore Annaya Zubick (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore Andrea Rapan (Thermal Coachella Valley) and the "Three's" team of freshman Adriana Vargas (La Quinta H.S.) and freshman Vanessa Rodriguez (Palm Springs H.S.) all qualified for the CCCAA State Finals.
