Roadrunner Women’s Tennis Wraps Season at Ojai with Grit and Heart

The College of the Desert women's tennis team closed out a spirited 2025 season at the prestigious 3C2A State Championships in Ojai, proudly represented by the doubles team of freshman Elyse Woodforde (Palm Desert H.S.) and freshman Mia Castillo (Indio H.S.).
COD qualified three entries for the state tournament - one in singles and two in doubles - but it was Woodforde and Castillo who took up the mantle to represent the Roadrunners in Ventura. Freshman standout Trinity Miller (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) earned a berth in singles and in doubles alongside Zoe Lopez (Palm Desert H.S.), but both opted not to attend the championship.
That left the duo of Woodforde and Castillo to carry the Roadrunner banner into The Ojai - one of California's most storied tennis venues. Earning a first-round bye, they advanced straight to the Round of 64, ready to make their mark.
Their match against Bakersfield's freshman pair Kailani Lua and Taylor Crider got underway in the late afternoon at the Pierpont Racquet Club in Ventura. Despite their best efforts, the Roadrunners couldn't gain traction and fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to a sharp Renegades squad.
Though their time on the court in Ventura was brief, their journey to get there was a testament to a season filled with growth, resilience, and grit. As underclassmen, Woodforde and Castillo have set the stage for a promising future with COD Women's Tennis.
