COD Women’s Volleyball sneaks by the Arabs, 3-2

COD (20-4) with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, struggled with a team they had swept twice already this season, but after a rough 2nd and 4th sets, prevailed in the 5th, as the Roadrunners knocked off the Imperial Valley Arabs (11-14), 3-2 (25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 15-25, 15-7).

Sophomore setter Ashtyn Lyneis (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team in assists (41), assist blocks (2) and service aces (3) and had 16 digs and sophomore middle blocker Mckenzie Bartlett (Redmond, OR Ridgeview) had 2 service aces.

The Roadrunners hold a 23-13 all-time record against Imperial Valley, including a 9-6 record in Palm Desert.

Sophomore outside hitter Baylie Dashner (La Quinta H.S.) led the team in kills (15) and solo blocks (2) and had 12 digs and sophomore libero Emily Sundback (Rancho Mirage H.S.) led the team with 19 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Smith (Delta, BC South Delta Secondary) had a solid night with 12 kills and had 18 digs and freshman opposite Kendal Campbell (White Rock, BC Semiahmoo Secondary) had 12 kills and 2 service aces.

The final regular season game for Desert is on the road, when the Roadrunners travel to La Mesa to take on the Grossmont Griffins (20-5) on Wednesday, November 14, game starts at 5 p.m. Desert has a 3-1 all-time record over the Griffins, including a 2-1 record in La Mesa, but the last time these two teams met, it was Grossmont who swept the Roadrunners for the first time ever, 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-21) on November 8th, 2017. The last time Desert defeated the Griffins was in 2009.
