COD Women’s Volleyball splits at Orange Coast Tri

Desert opened the OCC Tri in a head-to-head with Santa Monica, where the Roadrunners dominated, sweeping the Corsairs 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-15). 

Freshman middle blocker Alex Salinas (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 3 solo blocks, tied for the team lead with 2 block assists and had 9 kills.

Freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) tied for the team lead with 10 kills, had 4 digs and a block assist and freshman setter Judy Figueroa (Indio Shadow Hills) led the match with 35 set assists, tied for the team lead with 2 service aces and had 6 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Emillie Griffith (Yucca Valley H.S.) tied with the team lead with 10 kills, had 6 digs and a solo block and sophomore middle blocker Aaliyah Muhammad (Los Angeles Westchester) tied for the team lead with 2 block assists, had 2 solos blocks and 8 kills.

Freshman defensive specialist Alyssa Johnson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces and had 6 digs.

Freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) led the team in digs with 29 and freshman outside hitter Alissa Roberts (Gilbert (AZ) San Tan Charter) tied for the team lead with 2 service aces.

Desert closed out the OCC Tri by facing the host Pirates, falling by a narrow score of 3-1. The Pirates captured set 1 with a score of 25-20. Desert snagged the second set with 26-28. The Pirates narrowly stole the last sets, 26-24 and 26-24.

Salinas lead the team with 3 block assists, tied for the team with 2 solo blocks, tied for the team with 3 service aces, and had 8 kills.

Sophomore right side Kendal Campbell-Faynor (White Rock (BC) Semiahoo Secondary) tied for the team lead with 3 service aces, had 22 digs and 9 kills and Figueroa lead the team with 41 assists, and had 21 digs and 2 block assists.

Thiem led the match with 19 kills and had 2 block assists and Muhammad tied for the team with 2 solo blocks and had 2 block assists.

Roberts had 11 digs, Hansen led the match with 39 digs and Johnson had 13 digs.
