COD Women’s Volleyball Splits at Mt. SAC Invitational

Desert opened the Mt. San Antonio Invitational in Walnut where the Roadrunners split a two match event, falling to the Butte Roadrunners in five and grabbing a win against the host Mounties, 3-1.

In a first time match-up of Desert Roadrunners vs. Butte Roadrunners, the team from NorCal found themselves to be victorious in five sets (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-12).

Figueroa led the team with 51 assists, led the team with 4 service aces and had 22 digs.

Campbell-Faynor had 9 kills, 2 service aces, and 24 digs. Freshman outside hitter Emillie Griffith (Yucca Valley H.S.) led the team with 17 kills and had 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) tied for the team with 2 block assists, and had 12 kills.

Muhammad tied for the team with 2 block assists, and had 11 kills. Freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) led the team with 51 digs.

In the second game of the invitational, Desert faced the host Mt. San Antonio Mounties, winning sets one and two, falling in set three and then squeaking by in the fourth set to take the win, (25-23, 25-15, 17-25, 25-21).

Sophomore middle blocker Aaliyah Muhammad (Los Angeles Westchester) led the match with 16 kills, had 12 digs, tied for the team with 2 block assists and had 2 solo blocks.

Freshman setter Judy Figueroa (Indio Shadow Hills) led the match with 39 assists, had 2 service aces, 14 digs, and 2 solo blocks. Freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) had 11 kills, led the team with 3 solo blocks, and tied for the team with 2 block assists.

Freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) led the match with 27 digs, and had 2 service aces and sophomore right side Kendal Campbell-Faynor (White Rock (BC) Semiahoo Secondary) had 8 digs, and 2 service aces.
