COD Baseball sets record with 7 home runs, rolls past Wolverines, 21-4

COD (13-13; 10-5) used another blustery Saturday spring home game to get a little more offense into the mix, as the Roadrunners set a team record for home runs in a game by clobbering seven, taking the game and the series in a big way over the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (8-18; 3-9), 21-4.

The story of the day is freshman right fielder Samuele Bruno (Nettuno (Italy) Foro Italico Univeristy) who grabbed three home runs on the afternoon, his only home runs of the season so far. Bruno's first home run was a one out, two-run shot to right field to give Desert a 3-0 lead in the first. His second blast was another two-run home run to left, this time in the second, giving the Roadrunners an 8-0 lead. And Bruno's third home run of the day was solo shot to center in the third inning.

Sophomore second baseman Noah Gutierrez (Tempe (AZ) Marcos de Niza) went 1 for 2 with 2 walks and a run batted in and four runs scored out of the leadoff spot. Sophomore left fielder Aiden Arriaga (La Quinta H.S.) hit his second home run of the season, when he punched a two-run shot to center with two outs in the fourth. Freshman designated hitter Trevor Stowe (Buffalo (WY) H.S.) hit his second home run of the season, when he socked a three-run shot to center with one out in the third. Sophomore third baseman Eric Arreola (South Gate International Studies Learning Center) hit his first home run of the season, when he walloped a two-run shot to center with two outs in the sixth. Freshman center fielder Jackson Martin (Regina (SK) Martin Collegiate) hit his third home run of the season, when he walloped a solo shot to right which was on the back end of back-to-back jacks with Bruno. Sophomore catcher Tyler Nelson (Corona Centennial) went 2 for 5 with a run scored and sophomore shortstop Nicolas Ely (Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton) went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored in the win.

Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Braden Turner (Henderson (NV) Basic Academy) struck out six over the course of five innings to grab his fifth win of the season. Sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Alan Gaber (Las Vegas (NV) Sierra Vista) and freshman right-handed relief pitcher Colin Plain (Saskatoon (SK) Walter Murray Collegiate) tossed an inning of relief. Sophomore right-handed relief pitcher Eleazar Fregoso (Indio H.S.) and sophomore left-handed relief pitcher Hudson Myers (Beaumont H.S.) wrapped up the game for the Roadrunners.

The next contest for Desert is at home on Tuesday, March 26th beginning at 2p, as the Roadrunners host the Orange Coast Pirates of Costa Mesa in a non-Conference match-up.
