COD Baseball grabs lopsided sweep of Saints, 13-0 & 17-1

COD (21-18) got back on the winning track and a handful of Roadrunners received season firsts, as Desert swept a double header over the Community Christian Saints of Redlands (10-20), 13-0 & 17-1.

This was the first match-up in program history between these two teams and game one of the double header was 7 innings and game two was 5 innings. The Saints only traveled with 11 players.

In game one, sophomore right fielder Aiden Arriaga (La Quinta H.S.) collected his 13th double of the season, going 2 for 4 out of the leadoff spot, grabbing 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Freshman catcher Cameron DeJournett (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) grabbed his 7th multi-hit game of the season and is currently on a 5 game multi-hit streak, as he went 2 for 4 out of the 8-hole in the lineup, scoring a run and knocking in 2 RBIs. Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Trevor Stowe (Buffalo (WY) H.S.) tossed five innings of one hit ball, grabbing 9 strikeouts (which was one short of 100 for the season) for his sixth win of the season. Freshman right-handed relief pitcher Kai Hanasaki (Kōfu (Japan) Yamanashi Gakuin) and sophomore left-handed relief pitcher Hudson Myers (Beaumont H.S.) wrapped up the win for the Roadrunners.

In game two, freshman right fielder Kenneth Booth (Houston (TX) Heights) grabbed his first hit of this Roadrunners career, on a leadoff single to left in the bottom of the second and then an RBI single to center in the third as he went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Freshman left fielder Samuele Bruno (Nettuno (Italy) Foro Italico Univeristy) went 2 for 2 out of the 5-hole for his 9th multi-hit game of the season, adding 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Sophomore shortstop Nicolas Ely (Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton) went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs for his 8th multi-hit game of the season and sophomore center fielder Hunter Pinkston (Redding Shasta) clobbered his first home run of the season in the bottom of the first, going 3 for 4. Sophomore catcher Tyler Nelson (Corona Centennial) went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI out of the 8-hole in the lineup. Sophomore right-handed starting pitcher Dylan Van Meeteren (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) tossed four innings, grabbing 6 strikeouts and freshman right-handed relief pitcher Derek Stoetzer (Redondo Beach Redondo Union) threw the top of the fifth to grab his first win of the season.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home on Thursday, April 25th at 2:30p when the Roadrunners will wrap-up Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the Cerro Coso Coyotes of Ridgecrest. Since 1995, the Roadrunners hold a 47-32 overall record against Cerro Coso. Desert holds a 25-13 record against the Coyotes in Palm Desert.
