COD Men’s Basketball: McClendon layup at buzzer gives road win to Roadrunners, 69-68

COD (5-7) used a 14-5 run over the final 5 minutes, capped off with a buzzer beating layup by Jamerson McClendon to grab a road win over the Glendale Vaqueros (4-5), 69-68.

The Roadrunners found themselves down 15-points with less than 10 minutes left in the game and fought back, going on an 8-0 run to get within seven with 8 minutes left, keeping the game within single digits the rest of the way.

Sophomore starting forward Jermayn Baxter (Indianapolis (IN) Decatur Central) led all scorers with his fourth-best scoring night of the season, dropping in 20 points on 7 of 19 shooting, going a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line and falling just two boards shy of what would have been his third double-double of the season. Freshman starting guard Jamerson McClendon (Indio H.S.) collected his second double-double of the season scoring 13 points, including the game winner, on 3 of 9 shooting, going 5 of 8 from the charity stripe and grabbing 10 total rebounds, 6 offensive, while leading the team with four assists.

Freshman starting guard Daniel Davis (Phoenix (AZ) Skyline Prep) was a near perfect 4 of 5 from the free throw line and freshman starting center Sedrick Johnson (Phoenix (AZ) Skyline Prep) led the team with a season high 3 blocked shots. Freshman forward Wilfred Weir (Murrieta Valley) had a great night off of the bench, scoring 10 points on 4 of 8 shooting, going 2 of 5 from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Isaiah Goad (Palm Springs H.S.) contributed 6 points on 4 of 6 shooting all while dishing out 3 assists and sophomore forward Trevon Batts (Las Vegas Chaparral) led the team with 2 steals in the win.

The Roadrunners next game will be at home on Wednesday, December 20 at 7p as the Roadrunners open up Inland Empire Athletic Conference play against the Palo Verde Pirates of Blythe.
