COD Men’s Golf wins OEC-Inland, Kim named MVP

COD Men's Golf participated in their final regular season event of the 2022 season, saving the best for last as five of the six players shot their best rounds of golf of the season, and Palm Desert H.S., sophomore John Kim, Jr. was named Conference MVP.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to its final Conference event, which was hosted at the par-72, Temecula Creek Golf Course in Temecula. The event was a 36-hole tournament, Desert would win the Orange Empire Conference - Inland Division title, finishing with 733 points, 15 strokes ahead of the Riverside City Tigers. The Roadrunners would finish 3rd in the Orange Empire Conference.

Leading the way for the Roadrunners was sophomore John Kim, Jr. (Palm Desert H.S.) who shot a 2-under 70 in the first round, then crushed the course with an amazing 10-under 62 in the second round, to secure the OEC Most Valuable Player award.

Freshman Ryuki Torii (Matsuyama (JPN) Nitta Seiun Secondary Education) shot a season best 1-under, 71 in the first round and a 4-over 76 in the second round.

Freshman Ryln Hadley, Jr. (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a 4-over 76 in the first round, then pulled out his best round of the season, with a 1-over 73 in the second round.

Freshman Jeremy Kallmann (Palm Desert H.S.) tied his second-best round of 2022, shooting an even par 72 in the first round, then shot a 7-over 79 in the second round.

Freshman Brandon LaFond (Indio Shadow Hills) shot a 10-over 82 in the first round, the rebounded wonderfully in the second round, shooting a season best, 4-over 76.

Freshman Tyler Cunningham-Watson (Palm Desert H.S.) shot a season best 6-over 78 in the first round, then shot his second-best score of the season in the second round, an 84.

COD will make their next appearance at the CCCAA SoCal Regional Final as the Roadrunners travel to Olivas Links Golf Course in Ventura for a 36-hole events on Monday, May 9.
