COD Men’s Golf heads to State Championship after 2nd place finish at SoCal Final

COD Men's Golf grabbed a hard fought 2nd place finish at the SoCal Regional Final, catapulting the Roadrunners to the 3C2A State Final in Madera on May 14 and 15.

The Roadrunners sent six participants to the SoCal Regional Final event, which was hosted at the Industry Hills GC at Pacific Palms Resort in City of Industry. The first round took place on the par-74 South Course and the second round took place on the par-71 "The Babe" Zaharias Course. The event was a 36-hole tournament, Desert would finish second with 761 points, 9 strokes ahead of the Riverside City Tigers.

Leading the way for the Roadrunners was OEC Most Valuable Player, sophomore Ivan Sablan (Chalan-Pago-Ordot (Guam) Father Dueñas Memorial), who shot a 6-over 77 in the first round, then rebounded beautifully to tie his lowest score of the season, shooting a 2-under 69 in the second round. Sophomore Jeremy Kallmann (Palm Desert H.S.) shot an 8-over 79 in the first round, then really turned it around to tie his second-best of the season, shooting a 2-over 73 in the second round. Sophomore Hayato Ito (Yachiyo (JPN) Shoin) shot his lowest score of the season, with a 5-over 76 in the first round, then tied his second-best round of the season, shooting a 6-over 77 in the second round.

COD will make their next appearance at the 3C2A State Championship as the Roadrunners travel to Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera for a 36-hole event beginning on Sunday, May 14. Dragonfly, at 8,073 yards, bills itself "as the longest course in California from the back tees."
