COD Men’s Soccer left frustrated after narrow loss to Falcons, 2-0

COD (0-1) played a solid game against one of the toughest teams in California, but a couple of goals in the 75th and 79th minutes proved to be the difference as the Roadrunners fell to the Cerritos Falcons (1-0), 2-0.

The heat was intense as the game was delayed an hour due to unsafe heat related weather issues. The action on the field showed how difficult the situation was as Cerritos was in control of the ball a large portion of the first half, but the Desert defense would not relent. Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, with both teams going into the locker room at halftime, with a score of 0-0.

The Roadrunners hosted their first game in 21 months and it did not disappoint, as both teams played a hard-fought contest.

The Falcons would break through in the 75th minute as the Cerritos bench emptied onto the field in celebration. After the second Falcons goal in the 79th minute and another Cerritos bench clearing celebration, the visitors were handed a yellow card for their exuberance.

Freshman goal keeper Sebastian Ascencio (La Quinta H.S.) played well in net, facing 25 total shots, including turning away nine of eleven shots on goal.
