COD Men’s Soccer: Pair of hat tricks leads to big win over Arabs, 7-2

COD (2-1-1) grabbed a hat trick from both Jorge Quintero and Ramon Felix as the Roadrunners collected a big win at home over the Imperial Valley Arabs (0-3), 7-2.

Even though the game was delayed over 90 minutes due to weather related issues, Desert got the scoring in early, as in the 5th minute sophomore midfielder Ramon Felix (Thermal Coachella Valley) found freshman forward Jorge Quintero (Thermal Coachella Valley) on the right side of the goal and Quintero poked the shot in for the first of his three goals on the afternoon.

In the 17th minute, Felix would be the beneficiary of an assist from sophomore midfielder Emmanuel Munoz (La Quinta H.S.), as Felix would fire a deadly curved rocket from about 35 yards out into the lower left hand corner of the net to give the home side a 2-0 advantage.

Three minutes later, Quintero again with a goal as freshman midfielder Rosario Ramirez (Thermal Desert Mirage) fed him a ball off of an Arabs turnover to the left of the goalie box and Quintero crushed the mistake into the back of the net to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.

In the 29th minute, Imperial Valley would score and in the 45th minute, Desert was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the goal box, which Quintero promptly deposited in the lower right hand corner of the net. Quintero would have a first half hat trick and both teams would go into halftime with Desert leading, 4-1.

About 90 seconds into the second half, Desert turned another critical mistake into a goal as Quintero stole a ball at the left edge of the goal box and pushed the ball to Felix, who punched the shot into the net to give the Roadrunners a 5-1 lead.

In the 53rd minute, Felix snagged an opportunity laid before his feet as the Arabs keeper turned the ball over right in front of him, giving Felix his hat trick and Desert a commanding 6-1 lead.

In the 73rd minute, sophomore midfielder Gilberto Uribe (Thermal Coachella Valley) drove the ball towards the net and the Imperial Valley keeper tried to cut the angle of attack, but misplayed the ball and sophomore defender Omar Felix (Thermal Coachella Valley) poked the ball in for the Roadrunners seventh goal.

The Arabs would score their goal in extra time, off of a free kick from about 40 yards out.

Sophomore goal keeper Roly Segura (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) started the game, making three big saves and freshman goal keeper Sebastian Ascencio (La Quinta H.S.) finished a quiet second half, only facing one shot in the win.
