COD (7-3-3; 1-0) opened up Conference play with a convincing road win at the Chaffey Panthers (5-5-3; 1-1), 2-1.

The game would be marred in a 0-0 tie for the bulk of the first half as neither team would relent and then Desert broke through with a penalty kick in the 44th minute, when State scoring leader, freshman forward Jorge Quintero (Thermal Coachella Valley), converted the PK to give the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

Early in the second half, freshman forward Estevan Vargas (Indio H.S.) and sophomore midfielder Ramon Felix (Thermal Coachella Valley) found sophomore defender Ezequiel Minero (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) for his third goal of the season, giving Desert a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute.

Chaffey would score with 12 minute left and the stingy Roadrunners defense would keep the home side from equalizing.

Freshman goal keeper Sebastian Ascencio (La Quinta H.S.) faced seven shots on goal, making six saves on the afternoon.
