COD Men’s Soccer makes history winning at Norco, 1-0

COD (10-3-3; 4-0) made history on Friday, winning at Norco for the first time in program history, as the Roadrunners continued to roll in IEAC play, knocking off the Norco Mustangs (7-7-2; 3-2), 1-0.

Desert grabbed their fourth clean sheet of the season on a superb effort by the Roadrunners defensive back line and freshman goal keeper Sebastian Ascencio (La Quinta H.S.). Asecencio would make six saves on the afternoon.

The Roadrunners first met Norco in 2012 and have a 4-3-1 record against the Mustangs, in the eight times these teams have played one another, Desert is 1-3-1 in "Horsetown USA."

The game was locked in a stalemate until the 84th minute, when freshman forward Leo Jimenez (Rancho Mirage H.S.) connected with state goal scoring leader, freshman forward Jorge Quintero (Thermal Coachella Valley), for Quintero's 17th goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 advantage.

The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Friday, October 29 at 1 p.m. versus the Chaffey Panthers. Desert first faced off with the Wolverines in 2002 and has an 11-14-2 record against Chaffey, including a 7-5-1 record in Palm Desert.
