COD Men’s Soccer survives hard fought match with Panthers, 1-0

COD (11-3-3; 5-0) remained undefeated in Conference play with a huge win, making a goal scored in the 16th minute stand the entirety of the game, as the Roadrunners knocked off the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (6-7-4; 2-3-1), 1-0.

Desert first faced off with the Panthers in 2002 and has an 12-14-2 record against Chaffey, including a 8-5-1 record in Palm Desert.

Freshman goal keeper Sebastian Ascencio (La Quinta H.S.) and the Roadrunners defenders in front of him, grabbed their fourth clean sheet for Ascencio and fifth of the season.

Desert would get onto the scoreboard in the 16th minute as sophomore midfielder Ramon Felix (Thermal Coachella Valley) found sophomore midfielder Erick Guzman (Cathedral City H.S.) in the goal box, who poked the a pass, beyond the reach of the Panthers keeper for his third goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners hard work would pay off as both sides of the ball performed well and even during the offensive assault by Chaffey, the home side did not break.

The next game for Desert is on Tuesday, November 2nd at 4 p.m. at the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines. The Roadrunners first met San Bernardino Valley in 1981 and have a 13-18-8 record against the Wolverines, including a 6-11-2 record in San Bernardino.

The next home game for the Roadrunners is Sophomore Day on Tuesday, November 9th at 1 p.m. versus the Norco Mustangs. The Roadrunners first met Norco in 2012 and have a 4-3-1 record against the Mustangs, including a 3-0 record in Palm Desert.
