COD Men’s Soccer celebrates home opener with clean sheet over Olympians, 5-0

COD (2-2-1) finally hosted a home contest, after their first four games were on the road and they did not disappoint, giving something for the home fans to celebrate, as the Roadrunners grabbed their second shutout of the season, walloping the San Diego Mesa Olympians (1-1), 5-0.

Freshman goal keeper Luis "Lalo" Lucio (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) had high praise for the defense in front of him, helping keep the Olympians at bay and even facing down a penalty kick early in the contest. Freshman forward Jose Calderon, Jr. (Thermal Desert Mirage) got the scoring started in the first half, when his shot attempt ricocheted about 40 feet straight up and then landed behind the keeper and bounced into the net.

The Roadrunners played the San Diego Mesa Olympians of Clairemont Mesa for the first time in program history in 1982 and have an 11-19-4 record against the Olympians. Desert has a 6-9-3 record in Palm Desert. The next game for Desert is on Friday, September 9th, when Desert will host the Pasadena City Lancers for the first time in program history. The Roadrunners first played Pasadena City in 1979 and have a 2-1 overall record against the Lancers.
