COD Softball stuns with sweep of Rams, 9-8 & 14-12

COD (5-17; 3-7) had not one, but two come-from-behind wins in an IEAC double header sweep, the game had everything, walk-off hits and an inside-the-park grand slam, as the Roadrunners got back on track knocking off the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (10-16; 1-6), 9-8 & 14-12.

The Roadrunners played against the Victor Valley Rams for the first time in program history in 1998 and hold a 45-13 overall record against the Rams. Desert holds a 22-8 record against the Rams in Palm Desert.

In game one, freshman first baseman Arissa Gonzalez (Thermal Coachella Valley) hit out of the leadoff spot for both games of the double header, scoring the first run in the first game and going 2 for 5 with a run scored for her 10th multi-hit game of the season. Freshman shortstop Rebecca Perez (Palm Springs H.S.) collected a key two-out walk in the bottom of the 7th of game one to load the bases with two out, going 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 3 walks, for her 6th multi-hit game of the season. Sophomore center fielder Rubi Borjas (Thermal Coachella Valley), hitting out of the 5-hole in the lineup, reached base on a fielding error in the 6th, scoring Perez, a run scoring chance which paid off in a big way, as she went 2 for 4 in her 4th multi-hit game of the season. Freshman second baseman Kayla Vasquez (Indio Shadow Hills) went 2 for 4 for her 3rd multi-hit game of the season. Freshman third baseman Kamryn Delara-Flores (Thermal Coachella Valley) went 2 for 4 for her 2nd multi-hit game of the season. Freshman right-handed starting pitcher Victoria Talamantes (La Quinta H.S.) tossed four and a third innings of work, walking 4 and striking out 5 in a no decision in her 7th game of the season with 5-or-more strikeouts. Gonzalez would grab her second win of the season, wrapping up the final two and two thirds' innings.

In game two, freshman left fielder Andrea Ramirez (Palm Springs H.S.) contributed a record seven RBIs, over half of her season total in one game, thanks in large part to a backbreaking grand slam in the bottom of the 6th. Freshman catcher Jaylene Ramos (Yucca Valley H.S.) had her best game of the season so far, going a perfect 4 for 4 for her 4th multi-hit game of the season, all out of the 3-hole in the lineup. Gonzalez would start game two, tossing three innings in a no decision and Talamantes would grab her third win of the season, wrapping up the final four innings.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home on Tuesday, April 16th at 5p when the Roadrunners will honor Sophomore Day by continuing Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga. The Roadrunners first played against Chaffey in 1977 and have an overall record of 27-44 against the Panthers and a 17-15 record at home.
