COD Women’s Golf opens up OEC play with 3rd place, Veikune finishes tied for 2nd

COD Women's Golf kicked off Conference play finishing 3rd with sophomore Lehapi Veikune Taungahihifo (Rancho Mirage H.S.) leading the way with an impressive 1-over 73, finishing tied for second individually.

The Roadrunners sent four participants to its second event. The event was the first "cool" event of the season as temperatures only climbed into the low 80's, as Desert opened up Orange Empire Conference play at the par-72 Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto. Desert would finish with 351 points, which was 6 strokes ahead of fourth place finisher, the Saddleback Bobcats (formerly Gauchos) of Mission Viejo. The Roadrunners were just one stroke short of overtaking second place, Fullerton. The Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut would win the event with 320 points.

Veikune led the way for the Roadrunners, shooting san impressive 1-over 73, finishing tied for second individually. Freshman Kayla Speer (Yucaipa H.S.) finished tied for her second best score of the season, shooting an 86 and sophomore Jensen Kelly (Imperial (SK) School) shot an 89. Sophomore Samantha Miller (Valley Center H.S.) wrapped up the morning for the Roadrunners with a 105.
