COD Women's Soccer: Perez-Anguiano & Segura each score twice in rout of Mustangs, 4-1

COD (8-4; 1-1) drew even on Conference fixtures with a multi-goal performance by Ximena Perez-Anguiano and Ruby Segura, as the Roadrunners continued IEAC play by defeating the Norco Mustangs (4-6-1; 0-2), 4-1.

The Roadrunners played against the Norco Mustangs for the first time in program history in 2014 and hold a 5-3-1 overall record against the Mustangs. Desert has a 3-0-1 record against the Mustangs at home.

Freshman goalkeeper Zamara Cervantes (Thermal Coachella Valley) grabbed her fourth win of the season as she played all 90 minutes and stopping 2 of 3 shots on the afternoon.

Desert would get onto the scoreboard first, when freshman defender Katherine Ramos-Lugo (La Quinta H.S.) connected with freshman midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Thermal Coachella Valley) for her sixth goal of the season to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead. Ninety-five seconds later, Desert struck again when freshman forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) forwarded a pass to freshman midfielder Ruby Segura (La Quinta H.S) for her sixth goal of the season, in what turned out to be the game winner, giving the home side a 2-0 lead. Norco would put a goal in the back of the net just before halftime and both teams would go into the break with the Roadrunners up 2-1. In the 50th minute, Desert would increase their lead when Felix lobbed a pass into Perez-Anguiano for her second goal of the day and seventh goal of the season, giving Desert a 3-1 lead. The Roadrunners would wrap up the scoring in the 61st minute as freshman midfielder Melanie Ramos-Brizuela (Rancho Mirage H.S.) connected with Segura for her second goal of the day and seventh goal of the season.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will be at home against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee on Friday the 13th … of October. The Roadrunners first competed against Mt. San Jacinto in 1997 and hold a 9-27-6 overall record against them. Desert has a 7-14-1 record against the Eagles in Palm Desert.
