COD Women’s Soccer continues hopes of playoff berth with win over Rams, 5-1

COD (11-6-3; 4-3-3), with their playoff hopes on the line, went and did what they done quite a bit recently, which is grab a lopsided win at home over the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (7-10-2; 2-6-2), 5-1.

The Roadrunners played against the Victor Valley Rams for the first time in program history in 1998 and hold a 12-25-6 overall record against them after tying the Rams in Victorville on October 20th, 2-2. Desert has a 9-12-1 record against the Rams at home.

Freshman goalkeeper Zamara Cervantes (Thermal Coachella Valley) played all 90 minutes in net for the Roadrunners, facing four shots on net and making three saves in an otherwise uneventful afternoon.

Desert would get onto the board in the 11th minute as sophomore defender Montserrath Salazar (Indio H.S.) would push through a pass to freshman midfielder Sophie Hill (Palm Desert H.S.) to score her 6th goal of the season, poking a shot past the Rams keeper to give the home side a 1-0 advantage. In the 24th minute, freshman forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) would connect with freshman midfielder Ruby Segura (La Quinta H.S) for her 10th goal of the season, giving Desert a 2-0 lead. A little over six minutes later, Segura would lob a pass into sophomore midfielder Daniela Rodriguez (Thermal Coachella Valley) for her first goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners an insurmountable 3-0 lead going into halftime. Desert would find the back of the net again, 95 seconds into the second half, freshman defender Katherine Ramos-Lugo (La Quinta H.S) would pass up to sophomore defender Monserrath Arellano Ayala (Indio H.S.) for her first of two goals on the afternoon.

Victor Valley would score in the 53rd minute, but 10 minutes later, the Roadrunners got that goal back on a corner kick by freshman midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Thermal Coachella Valley) who found Arellano Ayala, who headed the pass into the back of the net.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners might be the 3C2A SoCal Regionals, with the opening round will being held on November 15th.
