2023 Season in Review - COD Women’s Soccer

Under first-year head coach Ramon Rivas, Desert finished the regular season with a record 11-6-3 overall and 4-3-3 in conference. The Roadrunners placed 3rd in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference (IEAC).

The Roadrunners collected a tie for fourth most team wins since 1997. The 1997 Roadrunners, in their first season of existence, went 11-9-2.

Women's Soccer also collected some notable victories in 2023 as they grabbed their first win over the Cerritos Falcons, first win over the Los Angeles Valley Monarchs of Valley Glen, first game ever against the Golden West Rustlers of Huntington Beach which was a win, first win at the East Los Angeles Huskies of Monterey Park, first time playing the Irvine Valley Lasers since 2004 which was a win, played at the Mt. San Antonio Mounties of Walnut for the first time since 2019 and won at the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines for the first time since 2002.

Sophomore forward Dalaina Johnson (Cathedral City H.S.) was named First team All-IEAC. After being the lone Desert representative on the First team in the 2022 season, Johnson returned to the top of the list with a solid encore season for the Roadrunners. She was top ten in goals (10 – 7th), points (22 – 10th), shots (37 – 4th) and game winning goals (3 – 5th).  Her best game of the season was at San Bernardino Valley on October 17, where Johnson grabbed her third game winning goal of the season, helping Desert knock off the Wolverines, on the road, for the first time since 2002.

Freshman midfielder Ruby Segura (Rancho Mirage H.S.) was also named First team All-IEAC. She was top ten in goals (10 – 7th), assists (5- 7th), points (25 – 8th), shots (26 – 10th) and game winning goals (3 – 5th).  Her best game of the season was at Irvine Valley on August 25, where Segura grabbed her first of three game winning goals of the season, helping Desert knock off the Lasers for the first time since 2004.

Sophomore midfielder Jenelle Agresor (Palm Springs H.S.) and sophomore defender Monserrath Arellano Ayala (Indio H.S.) were also named First team All-IEAC.

Freshman forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) was named Second team All-IEAC. She was top five in shots (36) and fourth in assists (8) and freshman forward Angelica Leal (Thermal Coachella Valley) was also named Second team All-IEAC. She was third in conference for shots (39).

Freshman midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Thermal Coachella Valley) was also named Second team All-IEAC. She was ninth in goals for the conference (8) and fifth in game winning goals (3) and freshman defender Katherine Ramos-Lugo (La Quinta H.S) was also named Second team All-IEAC.
