COD Women's Volleyball rolls in 6th sweep of season, walks past the Cacti, 3-0

COD (11-7; 6-0) continued their dominance of Conference opponents, setting the table for the Roadrunners first visit to the playoffs since 2007 as Desert remained undefeated in IEAC play, after knocking off the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree (0-10; 0-6), 3-0 (25-9, 25-9, 25-7).

Freshman outside hitter Grace Abrams (Fountain Hills (AZ) H.S.) had 5 kills and 2 service aces and freshman libero Denise Lupian (Indio Shadow Hills) tied for the team lead with 5 digs. Sophomore middle blocker Caitlin Bilhartz (Bowling Green, MO) led the team with 4 service aces and led the team with 2 solo blocks. Freshman outside hitter Joselyn Nunez (Palm Desert H.S.) had 5 kills and tied for the team lead with 5 digs and sophomore outside hitter Kaila Sandy (La Quinta H.S.) had 2 service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Katie Alexander (Yucca Valley H.S.) had 5 kills and 3 service aces and freshman outside hitter Melanie Hernandez (Thermal Coachella Valley) led the team with 11 kills. Sophomore setter Kianna Diaz (Palm Desert H.S.) led the team with 27 set assists and tied for the team lead with 5 digs and freshman opposite Liana Whitley (Palm Desert H.S.) had 3 service aces.

The Roadrunners first game in program history against the Copper Mountain Fighting Cacti of Joshua Tree was 23 days ago. Since the Roadrunners first contest against Copper Mountain, Desert has a 2-0 all-time record against the Fighting Cacti, including a 1-0 record in Palm Desert. The Roadrunners next encounter will be at home against the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville on Friday, October 28th at 5:00p. The Roadrunners first played against Victor Valley in 1976, holding a 19-40 overall record against the Rams and an 11-18 record in Palm Desert.
